Roti - Mediterranean Delicousness (and fast!!!)

Yesterday I had the huge pleasure of FINALLY trying Roti while at work.

I rarely eat out, preferring to hunker down, eat at my desk and get out of work at what I always hope will be a resonable hour.  That doesnt always happen.  Work never goes as one hopes, and while I love my job, I dont have the luxury of running out at 5pm each night.

Anyway - I'm not here to tell you all about my work life balance.  I'm here to tell you about Roti.

The menu is simple.  Choose between a salad, rice bowl, or pita sandwich.  Choose a protein (falafel, chicken, steak).  Choose your sides.  And also fall in love with the included grilled veggies and hummus.

 Whenever I choose to eat out at work its typically a salad, or soup.  Nothing to write home about, and certainly motivates me to get to the market... lets face it... the only reason I eat out is because I havent taken care of the supermarket responsibilities.  I someday hope to push those off onto the hubby, but we would have to be millionaires for that to be a good idea.  The man goes to the market and comes home with the most random food... and always stuff I have no clue how to cook.

I strongly suggest that if you are coming downtown for a little site seeing (maybe a boat tour around the Statue of Liberty... or some shopping at Century 21) stop at Roti and grab a declicious Mediterranean meal.  Its not overwhelming with options.  Its just simple and delicious.

Their website tautes its the food that loves you back, and I must admit, it does.  It feels great to eat a healthy meal halfway through the day.  Especially since its under $10.

Ok les amis... il faut que je vous parle de Roti. C'est un nouveau resto ici dans le Financial District... c'est de la nourriture Méditerranéenne. Trop bon.

Normalement je ne mange pas dehors de mon bureau. Je ne vois pas trop l'intérêt de sortir pendant une heure, pour rester une heure de plus à la fin de la journee. Ce n'est pas que je n'ai pas le DROIT de prendre une pause... c'est que je n'ai pas trop envie de rentrer à la maison encore plus tard que je rentre tous les jours.

Bref, hier, je suis allée manger chez Roti. C'est un restaurant super simple où vous pouvez choisir entre une salade, un sandwich, ou un "rice bowl." Après vous allez choisir votre protéine - fallafel, poulet, viande. Après, les choses vous voulez mettre à côté. Voila - pour moins que $10 vous avez une super repas.

La vérité est que je n'avais pas le choix d'aller manger dehors... je n'ai pas fait les courses ce weekend. Alors nous n'avons rien à apporter de la maison. Mon pauvre mari... Lundi son diner était des bretzels et Nutella. Hier, un sandwich. Par contre, je ne me sens pas trop mal pour lui non plus... C'est un chef. Il peut faire un repas magnifique... avec rien.

Si vous venez à NYC et vous venez dans le Financial District je suggère que vous vous arrêtez à Roti pour manger. Même si c'est juste vite fait. Comme ça vous auriez plus de force pour vous battre contre les autres touristes si vous allez faire du shopping à Century 21, ou à la South Street Seaport. Et peut-être on se croisera... je crois que j'irai souvent chez Roti :) Bon App!!!

Doughnut Plant - wow.

Let me start by saying I have yet to  physically GO to the Doughnut Plant.  And also, I've had to use photos from the website, because I havent been there.  That being said, this is on my NYC Bucket List for next weekend.  With the hubs of course.  However, I couldnt wait to tell you about the doughnuts for fear someone may be visiting NYC this week or next and MISSING OUT on the Doughnut Plant.

This Monday I had the opportunity to check out La Mediterranee in Midtown East (50th and 2nd).  A and I were meeting another couple for dinner, and I found this restaurant on Opentable.com.  It was delicous.

Veniero's - dessert worth the calories

Sweets, I love them.  This was the dessert spot D chose after our amazing dinner at Acme last week.  Its called Veniero's. 

Upon entering you are transported to a time that is before my years (and I'm getting up there).  This amazing little bakery was established in 1894.  Think back to old school New York.  I felt like I had been transported, and I was in love.  Of course, the huge display of pastries also helped me to fall in love, not just the decor.

Unfortunately their website doesn't exactly provide the history of the bakery, which I would love to learn.  I guess I'll have to go back and sit myself down with someone who works at the bakery.

Anyway - the menu is extensive.  The photo menu above is just a sampling of what is available.  And trust me, we all wanted to try everything.  Our choices were :

D & R : carrot cake (I hate carrot cake and this was amazing!)
P : cheesecake
Poulpy : Chocolate Raspberry mousse cake

I wont the contest for the best dessert.  It was unanimous.  Mine probably also had the highest calorie content.

There really isnt much more to say about an adorable little bakery, that is definitely kitch, but offers some amazing Italian American pastries.  The service was good.  The restaurant clean.  And the most important, delicious.

You can find Vaniero's at 342 East 11th Street.  If you take the L to 1st ave its only a couple blocks away.

Vaniero's.... une petit patisserie avec beaucoup de caractère.  En rentrant vous êtes téléporté à NYC circa 1920.  Ou même 1910 je dirais. Vous verriez bien les gens finissent leur travail, et ils s'arrêtent chez Vaniero's pour un espresso et un petit goûter.

La semaine dernière j'ai eu l'opportunité d'y aller avec D, sa copine, et P.  Nous y sommes aller après avoir mangé chez Acme.

Les desserts sont super. Vous pouvez avoir un menu normal (en texte) ou comme vous le voyez au-dessus, en photos. Il n'y a pas TOUS les desserts en photo, mais une grande partie.

D a suggeré ce petit café parce qu'il a du caractère.  Mais le plus important... la nourriture.  C'est plus que bon.  C'est plus que déliceux.  Ce cafe a eu beaucop d'article dans la presse et a gagné des awards aussi.  Allez voir sur leur site - Vaniero's.

Si vous cherchez un petit endroit pour vous poser, pour boire votre café, et pour profiter des patisseries vraiment Italian American, il faut venir ici.  Je vous promets que vous allez aimer... et que vous auriez besoin de vous balader un peu plus en ville pour perdre un peu des calories.

Acme, a real treasure of good food

This past Sunday I was invited by a great friend (and his equally adorable significant other) to join them for dinner.  They were kind enough to invite another friend of theirs, not only because he is quite lovely, but also because D was afraid I'd feel lonely without the hubby.  Silly D.  I really loved making a new friend, but I can handle dinner without the hubbs.

Anyway - D chose Acme.  It was quite an experience.  Dim lighting.  Service that was charming.  Amazing gin and champagne cocktail.  And these eggs.  Turned into a custard.  With mushrooms.

Or the chicken, potatoes and eggs melting pot.  I'm not really sure how to describe it besides saying it was DELICIOUS.

Its also a heart attack waiting to happen.  Its certainly not healthy.

I really have nothing more to say about Acme because the decor and food speak for themselves.  I am forever grateful D suggested this restaurant, because I'm fairly certain I would have never chosen on my own valition.

Acme is at 9 Great Jones Street.  the 8th St, NYU subway stop is how I got there.

Pour une fois dans la vie, je n'ai pas grand chose à dire.  Pas parce qu'Acme n'est pas bon.  Au contraire!  Acme est un resto que j'ai tellement aimé, que je n'ai pas de mots.

Dimanche dernier j'ai eu l'opportunité d'aller manger avec mon ami D et sa copine, et un ami à eux.  Apparemment D pense que je ne peux pas aller manger sans le hubby (le mari).  Oh les hommes! 

Bref, il y a une entrée aux oeufs qui etait magique.  Un peu fouetté (comme une cappuccino), avec des champignons (que normalement je n'aime pas), et des herbes.  C'était vraiment un plaisir.

Il y avait aussi du foie gras cru... C'était de couleur un peu rosé. C'était aussi une expérience à manger (je ne suis pas sûre que je le mangerais une 2eme fois) mais bon tout de même.

Et les cocktails... gin + champagne... rien de mieux

Alors, les amis, il faut que vous allez manger chez Acme.  Et pensez à D, car je ne l'aurais pas trouvé sans lui!

Cafe Francais, in/a FIDI

I love this little cafe.  The owner is French, and she makes the most amazing salad dressing.  Just like Maman.  A little Dijon, some olive oil, a dash of salt, and of course balsamic.  Lunch wouldn't be complete without an espresso, and Gourmand makes them just like in France.  Of course.

Wanderlust...the place to be (in Paris)

Cet été, en passant régulièrement devant la Cité de la Mode et du Design, je m’interroge sur cette terrasse bondée de jour comme de nuit. Je me renseigne donc d’un peu plus près et j’apprends qu’il s’agit du Wanderlust, le nouveau lieu bobo parisien inauguré le 6 juin dernier (ben ouais, je savais pas..)
Pourtant loin d’être une adepte des lieux m’as-tu-vu, je me laisse tenter, séduite par cette gigantesque terrasse en bois sur les quais de Seine. Résultat : j’ai adoré le concept de cet endroit à la fois festif et culturel!
Unique à Paris, le Wanderlust permet de profiter de l’été et du début de l’automne avec de nombreuses activités organisées du mercredi au dimanche. En journée, sont proposés des ateliers créatifs, des projections de film et des expos.
Sunday funday, c’est cours de yoga et Brunch Bazar, un marché branché, vintage, bobo, bio ou tout autre adjectif du genre.

Crazy weird dinner

This was dinner last night.  Bordeaux from A's dad, hand delivered to A at work.  Reblochon, from A's dad, hand delivered at work. Thank you Mounir!!!!  And Funfetti pancakes, which cholocate chips.  This was quite possibly one of the most confused dinners we have ever eaten, yet delicious.

Long Island City Dining - Riverview Restaurant

A couple weeks ago when I went to LIC, A and I had a lovely dinner at the Riverview.  Fresh fish.  Chilled Pinot Grigio.  And a spectacular view of Manhattan.  The outdoor dining made the experience all the better, especially while watching the sunset.

 Vous avez peut-être déjà entendu parler du resto Dans le noir à Paris, j'en ai fait l'expérence il y a quelques temps. Tenu par des non-voyants, ce resto propose une expérience humaine particulière puisqu'il s'agit, à travers un dîner, de découvrir les sensations ressenties par les personnes non voyantes.

Hudson Hotel - an amazing hot spot

The Hudson Hotel is beautiful!!!  I had the opportunity to check it out last night with my good friend, and A.  We met around 8 at the inconspicous hotel, and were flabbergasted by its beauty.  Dark wood.  Dark lighting.  Beautiful chandeliers.  A library bar.  A sky terrase.  And an outdoor bar behind the check in area.  Its a top knotch boutique hotel, that visitors and NYC natives should check out.  If your bank account allows for it, I would suggest staying as well.

Manhattan is home to a plethora of restaurants.  Jadinou and I could never test them all.  We would be the size of dump trucks, and still never finish.  Restaurants come and go.  The good ones stick around forever.

"Notre Resto"

Alors - il faut vous expliquer... mon mec, un français, adore ce resto parce nous l'avons trouvé l'année dernier... et apparemment nous étions les premiers a trouver ce resto, et les seuls.  (insert dripping sarcasm)

I love La Lanterna.  We randomly found it walking in the West Village when A (the boyfriend) arrived in America last year.  I had my birthday celebration in 2011 at La Lanterna.  Whenever either A or I have a bad, good, so-so, or any other 'type' of day - we go to La Lanterna.
I never received the "notre resto" memo prior to my birthday celebration.  That was a big deal too.
When I took the photo last night of the front (so you can all find La Lanterna when you visit NYC, or for you NYCers when you head down to the West Village) I was told "maaaiiissss nooonn! C'est notre resto"  (insert foot stamping and sad face with the bottom lip shoved out - he was kidding, he doesnt really throw temper tantrums on Mac Dougal, or in public in general)
