Black + Graze

While working last Wednesday I received an email (one of a million) from Pure Wow. I place these emails at the top of my daily updates. I always open them, and 95% of the time I find something new. A cool restaurant. A nifty bar. An interesting film. Or, like today, a cool new boutique.  Black + Graze

Upon opening last week's email I read about Black + Graze. It's a boutique on Mulberry Street in SoHo that sells original pieces as well as vintage pieces, candles and original art.

I immediately decided I needed to leave the office "early" and head over to check it out. Which is exactly what I did at 5pm.

Upon entering I met Jenny, one of the two owners. I quickly struck up a conversation where I learned a number of cool tidbits.

Here is Jenny fixing up the pieces.  Even though I swear they were perfectly arranged!

Jenny opened this boutique in under a month with her partner Caycee. In a number of weeks they set up the most adorable and incredibly chic boutique.

I also learned there is a concept behind Black + Graze. A story if you will.  It's not a boutique JUST for selling beautiful pieces. It's a boutique that uses vintage pieces as the beginning of their story; for their silhouettes, their inherent class, and the charm that goes with these pieces.

Caycee is an artist and uses these vintage pieces as inspiration. She uses her artwork as the backdrop, the fabric. One can go into the store, fall in love with a piece, and have it custom made in a different fabric; one of Caycee's paintings turned fabric.

Jenny and Caycee sell pieces from designers who create their clothing in NYC. Not abroad. This is beyond Made in USA. It's made in NYC.

Also available for purchase are the pieces of artwork decorating the space. They're pieces with their own character. So much so that you want to sit with the artist and ask him what motivated him. What inspired him.

An example of two beautiful pieces, and the artwork for purchase.

Jenny also has a fashion blog - nudesandgraze.com. The photos are her own, as are the opinions. As I sat writing this on the train I must admit I couldn't read the blog. No service. But I do know I will love it. (Update : I read it over the weekend and it was amazing!) Jenny was so welcoming and excited to talk about the store, I couldn't wait to check out her blog.

If you are visiting NYC definitely check out Black + Graze. I promise you'll want to purchase everything.

If you live in NYC you'll surely fall in love.

Go ahead and support them in their endeavor to sell unique pieces, made in NYC, inspired by the years gone by. I certainly plan on returning to do so.

What better to get ready for work or a night out, than knowing I'm supporting a small business that supports NYC... in a piece of clothing that is a piece of artwork.

Mercredi dernier c'etait Black + Graze.

Until Next Time/A Bientot
