Crazy weird dinner

This was dinner last night.  Bordeaux from A's dad, hand delivered to A at work.  Reblochon, from A's dad, hand delivered at work. Thank you Mounir!!!!  And Funfetti pancakes, which cholocate chips.  This was quite possibly one of the most confused dinners we have ever eaten, yet delicious.

Culturally France and America are pretty different.  Okay, really different.  But in the culinary world, there is no comparison.  A meal of delicious cheese (A loves it, I hate it unless its a Tartiflette), with a strong bodied red wine... and chocholate chip funfetti pancakes.... well, I think most people on either side of the Atlantic would take offense.

Neither my French chef  nor myself thought of this while preparing dinner.

It was about so much more.  Americans love pancakes.  French love cheese.  And, well, we love each other.  So why not?  I was willing to smell that cheese, and he was willing to devour out of the box pancakes.  (Really I'm the only one who compromised)  We both thoroughly enjoyed the wine!!!
For those of you visiting the US, pancakes are essential to the experience.  Chocolate Chip.  Blueberry.  Strawberry. Whole Wheat.  With oats.  With Whipped Cream.  There are so many options.  Since I was short on time (I got home at 8:30 pm) I used the above packet.  Many of you may be disgusted with my previous statement, but they're delicious.  Ask Jadinou... she loved when I made breakfast (out of a box).  And who doesnt love breakfast for dinner?
For Americans visiting France, cheese is essential.  There are so many different kinds - compte, bleu, Reblochon, chevre {goat} - the list goes on and on.  A grew up eating cheese every day, and loves it.  Add red wine and he is in heaven.  Top it off with his favorite "American food" and, well, c'est le meilleur {its the best}.
All of this is to just state that no matter where you were raised, comfort food is comforting and can be easily shared.  There is nothing better than sitting down to a meal with the person (or people) you love, and sharing traditions, as well as culture.
So - let me provide you with a brief list of what I think are some of the best pancakes, and cheese, in NYC.  I may be missing a ton of places, and if so - write us!  Let me know!  I'll add to the list so we can share with everyone.

So go ahead, try and have a super, crazy, wacky, mixed meal this weekend... and share it with those you love.  You'll see the results will be a great pleasure, and worth the insanity of it all!

A decided to take a photo of me cookingA a decide de me prendre en photo...apres 12 heures de boulot.

Until next time/ A bientôt
